Car Warning Signs: 4 Problems To Never Ignore

When To Know If A Car Warning Sign Needs Attention

Keeping your vehicle in good shape is important, but it can be difficult to know when something is wrong. You may not be an expert on vehicles, so you need to pay attention to the car warning signs that will let you know if there’s a problem.

Here are 4 common vehicle warning signs that require immediate attention:

  1. A whiny noise coming from the engine compartment
  2. Grinding or rattling noises during acceleration or deceleration
  3. Steering Wheel Vibrates At High Speeds
  4. Pulsating vibrations (usually felt more than heard)

A whiny noise coming from the engine compartment

Any usual noise coming from your engine compartment can be a cause for concern. If the sound is a lower-pitched whine or similar to a hum, it is likely a transmission or power steering problem. If the whiney sound is loud and high pitched, it could be an engine problem. No matter the case, a whine coming from the engine or transmission should be checked by a local mechanic.

Grinding or rattling noises during acceleration or deceleration

If you hear any unusual grinding, clunking, banging, or rattling sounds when accelerating, your vehicle may need an immediate inspection. These sounds could be caused by failing brakes or misaligned or worn out suspension components. Engine misfires can also cause similar noises under the hood.

Steering Wheel Vibrates At High Speeds

If you notice excessive vibrating while traveling at higher speeds, it can be due to an issue with your braking system, suspension, or tires. While the most common cause of a vibrating steering wheel is worn tires or rotors, it can also be caused by a more serious alignment or suspension issue. It’s best to have the vehicle inspected by a certified mechanic with the proper tools and diagnostic capabilities.

Pulsating vibrations (usually felt more than heard)

A pulsating noise from under the hood can occur when there is an engine misfire. Engine misfires are caused by poor fuel combustion within the cylinders of your vehicle’s engine and can cause severe damage if ignored. Pulsating vibrations can also be due to a worn timing chain or belt, or faulty motor mounts. Don’t delay and have the vibrations inspected by a mechanic to prevent further damage to your vehicle.
